Our five goals

The program aims to develop bio-based solutions and value chains with relevance to the energy system and increase knowledge and competence about how these should interact with each other and with the rest of the energy system. The developed solutions and value chains must be competitive, if possible improve the ecological status of land and water, contribute to security and equality and together contribute to flexibility and robustness in the energy system.

The program will create conditions for commercializing and implementing solutions among actors in the bio area. Dissemination of knowledge, needs identification and collaboration are central to the program to create added value from the research, innovation and business development supported within the program.

By 2030, the program has contributed to the following outcome targets

Resource-efficient solutions
Resource- and cost-effective technologies, products (goods and services) and system solutions are available. The solutions are competitive and exported to an international market. International standardization contributes to increased trade.

Sustainable value chains
Sustainable value chains are available that include the supply of sustainable bio-based raw materials and conversion into products and solutions that contribute to the transformation of the energy system. The value chains can also include the utilization of side and residual currents and in interaction with other bio-based products.

New player constellations
New player constellations have been formed where collaboration and continuous exchange of knowledge takes place both nationally and internationally. Resource-efficient bio-based system solutions are developed and built up within or as a result of the constellations.

High level of competence
Companies and organizations in Sweden can easily recruit in-demand expertise within the entire cinema area. The national competence at researcher level in the field is strong and adapted to meet society’s needs.

Effective instruments and policy
The bioeconomy’s market mechanisms work well and interact with the energy system. Regulations have been designed based on current sustainability research, societal studies, systems and socio-economic analyzes.
