Increasing Biofuel Production Through Co-Processing of Different Bio-Based Liquids
The main goal of the project is to increase Swedish production of sustainable biofuels by efficiently combining and refining various bio-liquids, including pyrolysis oil made from forest and agricultural residues. The project is interdisciplinary and includes research on catalytic upgrading of bio-liquids, AI assisted data analysis, and comprehensive system and energy analyses. Pyrolysis oil is difficult to handle due to its many reactive compounds, and in this project, we will investigate different technical concepts for co-processing pyrolysis oil with other bio-liquids within existing refinery infrastructure. We will use various experimental methods to analyze and upgrade bio-liquids. Aditionally, we will develop AI tools for faster and more accurate chemical analysis. To support the innovation process, we will carry out environmental, energy, and system analyses to guide future investments and enable sustainable, large-scale biofuel production in Sweden.
