Bio-based gasification enabling flexible electrofuel production in the dynamic energy system of the future
The project addresses the need for a more flexible fossil-free energy system. As wind and solar power increase, new solutions must use electricity when prices are low while making effective use of biogenic carbon dioxide. We study how biomass gasification for biomethane production can be integrated with flexible electrolysis and e-methane production. The work combines process modelling, catalytic studies, and assessments of climate impact and system benefits. The aim is to identify operating strategies that work under part-load and rapid load changes, and to clarify how the produced methane can be classified and used. The results will support industrial actors, policymakers, and researchers working with future biofuels and electrofuels.
