Good-to-go Grot: Detailed forecasts for logging residues extraction and efficient infrastructure for biomass handling
Sweden strives to become fossil-free, and biomass is a key component in this energy transition. By mapping the biomass potentials, this project can contribute with better forecasts and decision support regarding raw material resources in time and space.
The project will produce a detailed grid, based on data from forest inventories, satellite images and GIS, with models that take into account various factors such as soil conditions, nature conservation concerns, logistics, etc. The project also includes scenarios for future demand, including effects of EU regulations, as well as simulations of transport solutions to reduce costs and environmental impact. Through interviews and surveys, forest owners’ and entrepreneurs’ attitudes, motivations and doubts about logging residues are also analysed.
The result will be strategies for sustainable forestry, increased profitability, sustainable forestry and improved infrastructure, with a focus on southern and central Norrland, with great potential.
